HOLYOKE, Colo. (May 15, 2013) — Seaboard Foods announced today that construction of a new feed manufacturing facility in Holyoke, Colo., has been completed. The company made the announcement to about 100 invited guests attending an open house at the feed mill.
“We are excited to enhance our operations in Colorado with a highly efficient feed mill that will play an important role in our integrated system,” Seaboard Foods President and CEO Terry Holton said. “The feed processed by this plant will maximize nutrition at every stage of animal growth, which supports our continued production of high quality pork products we sell and distribute throughout the world.
“Seaboard Foods is proud to be a part of communities in northeast Colorado and we look forward to continued success in the region.” The plant will produce about 200,000 tons of swine feed for the Colorado-based live operations of the Seaboard Foods integrated system and purchase about 5 million bushels of locally produced grain annually to support the plant’s operations.
Seaboard Foods will employ about 20 people at the new facility and it replaces two feed mills located in Yuma and Sedgwick Counties, Colo.
The state-of-the-art manufacturing plant features the latest energy-saving and dust-collection technology for feed mills to complement Seaboard Foods’ long-standing commitment to sustainability and stewardship.Todd & Sargent of Ames, Iowa, served as the general contractor and employed nearly 60 people during the construction process.
With animal nutrition as one of the 11 points of the Seaboard Foods Quality Circle, the new manufacturing plant will produce proprietary rations designed to provide leading nutrition in every stage of animal growth. These highly tailored swine rations optimize pork color, texture and flavor, while specially formulated vitamin packs improve health, creating nutrient-rich pork for consumers and improving pork shelf life, moisture-holding capacity, texture and color.
