The companies donated $16,000 to support students gaining basic mechanical skills through a new Guymon High School program
Guymon, Okla. (Feb. 22, 2022) — Seaboard Foods presented a $16,000 check to Guymon Public Schools to support an auto mechanic program for high school students. The donation was in partnership with CoBank’s Sharing Success grant program, which matches company donations for beneficial community and educational programs.
“We are excited to be able to impact our local schools with this donation and support student learning,” says Rick Sappington, Seaboard Foods plant vice president and general manager. “The auto mechanics program will support fundamental mechanical skills which are key to critical thinking, troubleshooting and the basis for many technical careers.”
The auto mechanics program, which was launched in Fall 2018, teaches technical aptitude skills through hands-on learning and practical experience. The donation will fund necessary tools, programmers, and continuous-use supplies like oils and fluids. In addition to learning mechanical skills, the students also serve the community by providing oil changes for members of the public.
“Seaboard Foods is committed to supporting education for local students, whether it is through our scholarship program, our Educator Learning Experience tour or donations that benefit students,” says Jennie Watkins, Seaboard Foods human resources director. “Mechanical and technical skills offer sustainable careers to individuals in the Oklahoma panhandle region, and this class supports these needed competencies while also preparing students for a future in the trades.”
