At Seaboard Foods, our more than 5,000 employees are the cornerstone of our business success. We know that providing them with the opportunity to make a good living, offering training and advancement programs and helping them feel connected to why they do what they do each day leads to a happy, productive workforce.

Recruiting the Best

Seaboard Foods actively recruits and employs a diverse workforce. Our culture of asking 'why' propels innovation through questioning traditional practices, analyzing how we do things and researching and investing in ways to do things better. As such, we look for people who demonstrate an innate curiosity, and then encourage them to share new ideas to drive innovation every step of the way. Our comprehensive compensation and benefits programs help us retain people with the necessary experience and drive to keep our operations moving forward successfully. We offer our employees:

  • Competitive pay

  • Affordable medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage

  • Retirement savings plans for full-time, active employees

  • Paid time off to qualified employees

  • Career training and advancement

  • Discounted pork products for employees personal use through periodic employee sales

Rewarding Excellence

Our employees are vital to all that we do, resulting in great quality pork to feed families. As a connected food company (we control every step of the supply chain), our success truly depends on an engaged workforce. We offer several innovative programs to reward excellence in our employees to benefit them and their families:

  • College Scholarship Program – Children of Seaboard Foods employees entering college as first-term freshmen are eligible for scholarships for use at any accredited college or university in the United States, regardless of field of study.

  • Educational Assistance – We provide tuition reimbursement for job-related educational courses that improve and broaden employees' job performance or prepare them for future assignments and greater responsibilities.

  • Recognition for Service – Our recognition program honors long-term employees for their service of 5+ years.

  • Management Trainee Program – Current employees and recent college graduates are offered training in production, processing operations and support and business management. The 8- to 12-month program prepares management trainees for supervisory positions or technical roles. Upon successful completion of the program, trainees bid on open positions.

Training and Certification

A safe and humane work environment is a top priority at Seaboard Foods. We think the best food systems start with people being connected and knowing why they do what they do. That's why employees across all facets of Seaboard Foods' operations undergo extensive training, including hands-on instruction and sophisticated computer training programs to maximize learning and retention, such as:

  • Animal care:

    • Humane animal-handling training for all employees in stockyards and staging areas.

    • PQA Plus certification training for all employees working on our farms.

  • Employee Safety

    • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Certification Training, including annual Fall Protection, LockOut/TagOut and Confined Spaces training that exceed industry standards for plant and farm supervisors.

    • Powered Industrial Trucks Certifications for all employees who may drive forklifts, pallet jacks, Bobcats, boom lifts, high lifts and scissor lifts on the job.
