  • Am I qualified for a trainee program position?
    Trainees will be hired into a designated department based on skills, education, interest and company/departmental needs.
  • Are there opportunities for advancement?
    Throughout our connected food system, there are a variety of jobs and career pathways for individuals in the trainee program. The program is designed to offer you flexibility to build your own career and advance into positions that you are passionate about.
  • How long does it take to advance in the company?
    Once you start the trainee program, advancement is up to you. Seaboard Foods is looking for individuals with ambition, a positive attitude, a passion for the industry and a willingness to learn. How far and how quickly you advance at Seaboard Foods is in your hands.
  • How does mentorship work?
    You will have a formal mentor that will support you through your training. As you rotate through different areas of operations, you will have the ability to meet others in the company and learn from them, providing informal mentorship.
  • What is compensation like?
    You will start making a competitive, entry-level income with full benefits that start on day one and additional employee perks. There are also opportunities to make extra money through our employee referral program.
  • What are the benefits?
    You can learn more about benefits by visiting the benefits page in our Career Center. Trainees will get all the traditional benefits, like medical, dental, vision, retirement savings and paid time off. In addition, there are other perks like discounted pork products, employee referral bonuses, wellness programs, family events and discount programs, which vary by location. Benefits are effective on date of hire.
  • What locations have trainee programs?
    To learn more about locations, visit the locations page in our Career Center. Seaboard Foods has trainee programs in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and at our corporate headquarters in the Kansas City Metro Area (Shawnee Mission, Kan.).
  • How long does the program last?
    The program takes about eight to 12 months, but the completion of the program can take less or more time, depending on how long it takes to learn the skills needed to advance to the next step in your career.
  • Will I have to relocate?
    We try to match trainees with their locational preferences when applicable, but often times, trainees have to relocate. In order to have cross-functional experiences, complete assignments and engage in the learning process, relocation and travel should be expected. Trainees who do not limit themselves to location often times have more opportunities within the company. We offer relocation assistance.
  • Do you offer tuition reimbursement?
    Yes! Tuition reimbursement is open to all employees in good standing with the company and with six months or more of service. We pay up to $4,000 per semester as long as certain job and academic requirements are met,
  • Is there assistance finding housing?
    There is assistance finding housing if you need to relocate. You will be provided with a list of landlords in the area that have rental apartments and homes. When the time comes, please contact a recruiter for more information.
  • What departments have trainee programs?
    A variety of departments have trainee programs. Please check our trainee and intern positions on our Campus Corner or on the apply now drop-down off of our careers page.
  • Will I get to experience other parts of the business?
    Management Trainees will be able to tour all of our connected systems regardless of their position. You will tour our feed mill, land and nutrient management systems, farms, processing plant, mainenanace and more. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to learn from different divisions such as sales, accounting and logistics in our corporate office in Kansas City.

About Trainee Programs


The management trainee program is specifically designed for recent graduates or those entering the industry to gain knowledge and training in our connected food system. The program gives individuals business management, supervisory, leadership and technical training in approximately an eight to 12 month period. Once individuals complete the program, they can apply for supervisory or technical roles with Seaboard Foods when they open.
