The 16-foot OBR cook trailer is designed to serve 800 to 1,000 meals a day during a deployment. Valued at $20,000 and funded through a grant by The Seaboard Foundation, the trailer features 11 feet of floor space, a three-bay wash sink, a prep area, a serving window, a hot water tank and a generator. On the back of the trailer, there is a smoker with 40 square feet of cooking space.
With their unique connection to competition barbecue, OBR has the volunteers, equipment and skills to rapidly deploy to affected areas in 24 to 48 hours after a disaster strikes.
"Every time I witness OBR volunteers swing into action following natural disasters such Hurricane Harvey and the flooding in Texas, I'm truly amazed. This is an admirable nonprofit organization that harnesses its volunteers' unique skillsets to quickly provide a basic need to people during extreme hardship," says David Eaheart, director of marketing and communications at Seaboard Foods. "Seaboard Foods is honored to support such a worthwhile organization with a trailer and pork products that will help them in their mission to provide hot meals, compassion and caring to those impacted by disasters."
Donned with PrairieFresh® Premium Pork — a product of Seaboard Foods logos, the trailer will be used for fundraising events and the OBR Day of Giving program. The Day of Giving is a program designed to provide warm barbecued meals to worthy organizations, events and communities.
Seaboard Foods and its PrairieFresh® Premium Pork brand are the official OBR premier pork supplier for 2017. The trailer donation follows two years of product donations to the organization. In 2016, Seaboard Foods supplied pork allowing OBR to serve more than 260,000 meals during deployments. In addition, Seaboard Foods has agreed to provide pork for OBR's Day of Giving program and fundraising events.
OBR deployed to the Houston area earlier this week and relies on monetary donations and bulk food donations to function. Those interested in donating can visit the OBR website at www.operationbbqrelief.org for more information.
