IOWA FALLS, Iowa (Aug.12, 2020) – Iowa Falls-Alden High School agricultural education students will gain classroom swine reproduction experience with a new sow reproductive simulator thanks to a donation by Seaboard Foods. The simulator will strengthen the school's agricultural education curriculum by providing students hands-on experience simulating inseminating sows and participating in pig births. Seaboard Foods presented a $2,500 check to the Iowa Falls-Alden High School today to purchase the simulator.

"I am excited for the opportunity to contribute a valuable piece of equipment to the students at Iowa Falls-Alden High School. The simulator will enhance the students' learning experience in animal care in the pork industry and hopefully lead to a career one day in swine production," said Jim Crane, senior operations manager at Seaboard Foods.

The donation provides a valuable educational tool to the 50 students in the school's agricultural education program and will be used to inspire more students to work in the swine breeding and production field. The school program has students studying large animal science and veterinary science who will use the sow simulator this coming year. Seaboard Foods with farm operations and a feed mill in the area is committed to supporting schools and community organizations in areas where they operate.

"We are grateful to Seaboard Foods for the opportunity to broaden our agricultural students' education in the animal industry. Many of our students in the area have family members working in the pork industry, and the donation makes a real difference for those students with an interest in following in their parents' footsteps," said Kaitlyn Bartling, Iowa Falls-Alden High School FFA teacher.
